Holland America Line have long held a high reputation for their Alaska cruises and as we were favourably impressed by Westerdam and Noordam in New Zealand, Australia and Japan during 2023, we chose HAL again for this 'Bucket-List' itinerary including the famous Rocky Mountaineer through the Canadian Rockies. For this cruise though, we chose the slightly newer and slightly larger Nieuw Amsterdam (2010: 86,700grt 2,106 passengers).

This cruise was a resounding success; not only for the excellent weather but also for the exceptional experience of the Rocky Mountaineer. NieuwAmsterdam was not a disappointment either; the food and service were much as we enjoyed in 2023 and while the ship was bigger and busier with a younger/family demographic aboard, it did not detract from our enjoyment. Alaska may have been a long time coming but it was worth the wait!
